Taiwan Day 2: Zoo & MaoKong
written on Friday, December 26, 2014 @ 11:10 PM ✈

We shall name Day 2 as a excursion trip!

We started our journey by waking up at 8.30am in the morning and walking around Ximending to find our breakfast.

As it was too early, none of the shops have opened. Except MacDonalds and 2 push cart stalls. We decided to have the street food instead of Mcd.

It was too early, my brain haven't fully awake yet so I didn't take a photo of it which I regretted now.
1 of the cart was selling pan-fried dumplings, the other was selling pancake with different flavours like pork floss or cheese etc. So as most of the tourist will do, we bought from both stalls and shared. HAHA! Surprisingly, both stalls are equally nice and good. But the pancake you have to really eat it fast while it's hot. When it started to cool down, you can see and feel the plastic bag starts to absorb the oil.

Travelling in Taiwan is very convenient. Just like travelling in Singapore. They have trains to everywhere. But there is 1 thing you should take note of when you take train/bus in Taiwan.

Never ever sit on this seat unless you have one of the above criteria even if the train is damn crowded. You will be stared at if you doesn't fit the criteria but you are sitting there.

They called it, 爱心坐

We headed to the zoo as our first stop of the day. Most important thing in the zoo is, to see the pandas.

Their Pandas home is so different from the one in Singapore. Although, the one is Singapore is an open space but it doesn't have toys for the panda to play.

They even hang the fruits from the celling to the height of the panda so that they could somehow stretch before they have their food.

Interesting right?!

They also have a panda cafe there too.

So cute! Can I bring it home?

Waffle Ice-cream

Of course they have other animals in the Zoo. HAHA

Giraffe!!!

Till now I am wondering, does his pants have a hole in the center just for him to air his balls and penis?

The zoo was very big! Our next motive was to take the Maokong cable car. There is a tram station that provides free tram service to the cable stop in the Zoo.

Fav. Hello Kitty Cable Car!

View from the cable car

TADAH! We have reached the top of the Mountain!
The wind was so strong! Luckily I didn't flew away.
(Pardon me, I am only 38kg at that time)

There's a few different tea houses near the station. We aren't really fond of Taiwan tea hence we visited none of them. HAHA.

As the sun is starting to set, we head off to our next destination! Miramar Shopping Mall

Okay. I am abit stupid/dumb. I went there just to take photo of the Ferris Wheel. HAHA

Very soon after we took photos of the Ferris Wheel, we proceed to Shilin Night Market (士林夜市) for street food dinner!

Okay, the main point is here! Recommended food in the night market!

1. Deep fried milk cube!
Located on along the roadside. Apparently, it's the one and only stall selling this. It's the first stall I tried in the night market. It's lady in her mid-40s selling it. She's a very gentle and caring lady. She told all her customers that it will not melt as it is milk cube. Eat slowly, don't have to rush. Even when you pay, you put in the box and take the change yourself. I regretted I didn't eat/buy more. As I'm afraid I don't have space for other nice foods in the streets.
PS: I have a bird stomach (as per my friends' feedback)

2. 豪大大鸡排
Located just outside the Shilin Food court.
Better to reach there earlier then you don't have to queue for too long. Just nice when we reached at 7plus, we waited awhile for it.

3. Pearl Milk Tea
Just nice beside the chicken cutlet store, there's a store selling milk tea. Not too bad. The combination of the milk and pearl is just nice. I don't really like to chew on things while drinking bubble tea. HAHA.

3. Strawberry with condensed milk
If you are a fond of strawberry you can give it a try. It's quite nice. But please find someone to share with you. The strawberries are big, but as I ate half of the share, I'm alr feeling abit too full.

So we walked the whole night market till it was almost the last train to head back. Every stalls in the night market have their unique items. Worth walking/shopping in the night market. But please do remember to safe keep your own belongings. As there is too many people there.

Another interesting thing we saw while walking the night market. They have one whole stretch of people selling clothes in the center of the pedestrian passage which are illegal. Each of them holds a walkie talkie. So the one nearest to the main street will alert everyone when there's police coming to check. And everyone quickly pack their things and run into those small alley. When it's all clear, then they will come back out again.

We could see how Taiwanese help each other in order to maintain their life/business.

Taiwan Day 1: Taipei 101
written on @ 6:32 PM ✈

Hi everyone! Recently had the urge to write a blog on my travel log. Hope to share my travel experience with everyone!

First post shall start with Taiwan, a place that all would like to visit!
I will be sharing my itinerary here too!
I went there for 7D6N.

Flight details:

Airline: Jetstar
Cost: $229.50/pax
Departure (SG - TW) : 0710hrs
Length of flight: 4hrs 45min

The first thing we did after we cleared the customs was to buy a Taiwan SIM card to keep us in contact with the net and each other in case we got into separate ways due to the big crowd that we might met. There's lots of choices at the arrival hall. We chose the cheapest one as it doesn't have any difference to us.

Transportation to hotel:

Taking cab to the city/hotel is so expensive. If you happens to buy SIM card at the arrival hall, there will be people approaching you for transportation. They will offer you like 2000 twd to and fro from airport to hotel. Which is about $84sgd. Me and my boy then choose to take the airport bus to Taipei bus terminal. You can easily get tickets at the bus terminal at the airport. They also have different bus company to choose from. So we chose the earliest bus that we could board.

The bus will stop at a few stops/hotel while going to Taipei Bus Terminal. At the bus terminal, you could board a free bus to ximending. Where we booked our stay at. The bus didn't stop directly infront of our hotel, but it's within walking distance. If you're unsure of which way to walk, you may approach the bus driver, he will be glad to help you with the directions.

Accommodation for next few days:

Below are photos of our hotel room. Although it's quite a small room, but it's very cozy. I believed that this hotel is a family business. The hotel staffs are very friendly too. We considered that we will not stay in the hotel for long, that's why we rather save down money on shopping and etc than booking a luxury hotel.

Hotel: Yes Inn
Location: 5mins walk to famous 红楼
They have 7-11, bubble tea store, starbucks at walking distance.
Price: $441.56 for 5 nights, $88.31/night (Booked under agoda.com)

After we unload our luggage in the room, we went for late lunch at the Modern Toilet Restaurant

108, Taiwan, Lane 50, Xining South Rd, 7號
2樓

It's located in the alley. But you will be able to see a BIG toilet bowl picture on the building itself. There's also a shoe shop beside the entrance of the restaurant.

The whole restaurant is decorated with toilet accessories like, bathtub, toilet bowl seats, shower hose etc. Even the food was served in toilet bowls/bathtub. The cutest/funniest thing is that we had a chocolate ice-cream that comes with the meal we ordered. It was made like a poo of shit on the squatting toilet. LOL

It's was still early so we headed to TAIPEI 101, a place where you could almost see the whole Taipei.
Of course they have their famous mascot,

Taipei 101 mascot

 Din Tai Fung Mascot

LOVE

In the exhibition hall at 101, they have sign boards recommending tourist place of interest. They also provide recordings in different language to help tourist from different countries to understand how 101 comes about and how it is built.

Recommendation: ««««
Advice: Go once is enough.

The sky's getting dark. Time to find a place to settle our dinner. 没去过夜市,不算来过台湾!
So we just head to one of the night market which I forgotten which one I went to. HAHA. Sorry!
But at least I took a photo of my food.

猪血汤,贡丸

The night market was crowded, didn't have much chance to take photos. But I bet it is nicer than Singapore's Pasar Malam. They have fishing or prawning stalls for everyone to play. You can grill your prawns on the spot after you have caught it. (Provided you have caught the prawns)

END OF DAY ONE.
